Mezzadro stool designed by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, manufactured by Zanotta, Italy, 1970s.
This iconic piece is designed from an existing tractor seat, solid metal chrome plated branch, a wing-nut from a bicycle and a wooden foot. Made to be disassembled and flat packed. The stool has original labels and etchings from Zanotta. Mezzadro, translating to “sharecropper” in Italian, references both modern mass production and Italian agricultural practices.
It has been exhibitied at many major museumes around the world, and is apart of the permanent collections such as, Cooper Hawit Collection, MOMA, Munich’s Die Neue Sammlung, and Paris’ Musée d’Art National Moderne and Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
